bonobo LLCは、着物に込められた時代の物語と美意識を現代アートとして再構築する"ikasu"を展開しています。このたび、ドバイのラグジュアリーホテルFour Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach内のレストラン Sea Fu が主催する招待制イベント「Breath of Japan」において、ikasuがアートパートナーとして参加し、2025年11月1日に作品展示を行いました。

日本文化を世界に発信する、新たなコラボレーション
アラビア湾を望むFour Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah BeachのSea Fuで開催された「Breath of Japan」は、文化、サステナビリティ、心のこもった繋がりが織りなす夜を祝うイベント。VIPゲストを招き、アート、音楽、料理を通じて日本文化の魅力を伝える夜となりました。

着物マイスター資格を持ち、クリエイティブディレクターとしても活躍するテキスタイルアーティスト Lena Okamotoがゲストと会い、それぞれの作品の背景にあるストーリーを語りました。Lena Okamotoは日本全国を巡り、作品へと生まれ変わらせるアンティーク着物を厳選。額にはアンティークの桐たんすを活用するなど、徹底したアップサイクルを実践しています。

日本の家庭には膨大な着物や帯が眠っています。しかし着る機会の減少や保管の難しさから、廃棄される着物が増えているのが現状です。ikasuは、着物を「持ち主の思い出」「作家の作品」「日本の伝統文化」として捉え、現代空間に調和するアート作品へと昇華させます。

着物は「着る芸術」。織り・染色・刺繍・装飾が手作業で施された一点ものの芸術品です。ikasuは、その歴史・技術・文様・物語を尊重しながら、伝統工芸と現代デザインを融合させた唯一無二の作品を制作。環境配慮と文化価値の両立を実現しています。

Textile Artist Lena Okamoto
東京を拠点に活動するテキスタイルアーティスト。日本文化研究の学士号と東京大学修士課程を経て、記憶・アイデンティティ・変容をテーマにした作品を制作しています。

骨董商や着物専門家と連携し、物語を宿した生地を厳選。色褪せや傷は時間の痕跡として尊重し、着物を切る行為を「破壊ではなく再生」と捉えます。きものマイスター資格と広告業界でのクリエイティブ経験を持ち、繊細さと詩的感性を併せ持つアーティストです。

彼女にとってテキスタイルは「見えるかたちになった記憶」。文化的遺産を保存・再解釈し、新たな命を吹き込むアートです。

A new collaboration bringing Japanese culture to the world
Breath of Japan, held at Sea Fu restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach overlooking the Arabian Gulf, was an event celebrating an evening woven from culture, sustainability, and heartfelt connections. It was a night inviting VIP guests to experience the allure of Japanese culture through art, music, and cuisine.

Textile artist Lena Okamoto, a certified kimono master and creative director, met with guests to share the stories behind each piece. Lena Okamoto travels throughout Japan to carefully select antique kimonos to transform into artwork. She practices thorough upcycling, even utilizing antique paulownia chests for frames.

At the event, authentic Japanese cuisine prepared with specially sourced ingredients from Mie Prefecture was also served. Art, music, and cuisine came together as a trinity, allowing guests to experience the beauty of Japanese culture through all five senses.

Vast quantities of kimonos and obis lie dormant in Japanese households. However, with decreasing opportunities to wear them and the difficulty of storage, many kimonos are being discarded. ikasu views kimonos as "owners' memories," "artists' works," and "Japanese traditional culture," transforming them into art pieces that harmonize with contemporary spaces.

Kimonos are "wearable art"-one-of-a-kind masterpieces created through handcrafted weaving, dyeing, embroidery, and decoration. ikasu creates unique works that fuse traditional craftsmanship with modern design while respecting the history, techniques, patterns, and stories of each piece, achieving both environmental consideration and cultural value preservation.

Textile Artist Lena Okamoto
A textile artist based in Tokyo. After earning a bachelor's degree in Japanese cultural studies and completing a master's program at the University of Tokyo, she creates works centered on themes of memory, identity, and transformation.

She collaborates with antique dealers and kimono specialists to carefully select fabrics imbued with stories. Fading and damage are respected as traces of time, and she views the act of cutting kimonos as "rebirth, not destruction." With a kimono master certification and creative experience in the advertising industry, she is an artist who combines delicacy with poetic sensibility.
