株式会社Newsight Tech Angels（本社：東京都中央区、CEO：瀬尾 亨、以下「NTA」）は、小児がんを対象とするアプタマー創薬を手がけるAptadel Therapeutics, S.L.（本社：スペイン・バルセロナ、CEO：Gisela Lorente、以下「Aptadel社」）に対し、出資を実行したことをお知らせいたします。NTAにとってスペイン企業への投資は初めてとなります。
ユーイング肉腫が抱える課題
ユーイング肉腫は、骨および軟部組織に発生する希少な小児・若年成人のがんです。標準治療は化学療法・外科手術・放射線治療の組み合わせに限られ、いずれも身体的負担が大きく、成長期の患者に長期の後遺症を残すことが少なくありません。
患者数が限られるため大手製薬企業が単独で開発に踏み切りにくく、過去数十年にわたり治療選択肢がほとんど更新されてこなかった領域です。
Aptadel Therapeutics社について
Aptadel社は2020年にバルセロナで設立されたバイオテック企業で、ベルビッチ生物医学研究所（IDIBELL）のOscar Martinez-Tirado教授が率いる肉腫研究グループからのスピンオフとして誕生しました。設立にはスペインの患者家族が設立した財団（Fundacion Alba Perez）も関与しており、バルセロナ科学パーク（PCB）に拠点を置いています。
同社のコア技術は、独自のアプタマー薬物複合体（ApDC）基盤です。腫瘍細胞に高発現するEphA2を標的とするRNAアプタマーをキャリアとして用い、siRNAやアンチセンス核酸などの治療用分子を腫瘍細胞内へ選択的に送達します。このアプタマー自体が転移抑制作用を持つこと、腫瘍組織への浸透性が高いこと、そして搭載する分子（ペイロード）を差し替えられるモジュール性が特徴です。
リード品目のADEL-101は、ユーイング肉腫の発症を駆動する融合遺伝子EWSR1:FLI1を標的とするアプタマー-siRNA複合体です。この融合遺伝子は長らく「創薬が困難な標的」とされてきましたが、同社は細胞試験および動物モデルにおいて有望な結果を得ており、現在は規制当局向け試験の完了と臨床試験入りを目指す段階にあります。横紋筋肉腫を対象とするADEL-102をはじめ、放射性核種複合体や診断キットなど、提携先とともに進めるプログラムも複数有しています。
スペイン・バイオテック産業の活況
今回の出資は、スペインのライフサイエンス産業が大きく成長する局面と重なります。スペインバイオ産業協会（AseBio）が2026年6月に公表したレポートによれば、2025年のスペインのバイオテック企業による資金調達額は4億800万ユーロに達し、前年の1億8,100万ユーロから125%増と過去最高を更新しました。件数も59件（前年52件）に増加しています。
特筆すべきは、この調達額のうち3億200万ユーロが海外投資家の参加した12件によるものであった点です。スペインのバイオテックが、国内資本だけでなく国際的な投資対象として認識され始めたことを示しています。バイオテック企業数も1,119社（前年比10.4%増）へと拡大しました。
なかでもカタルーニャ州は同国のバイオテック企業の約23%を擁する最大の集積地であり、州内には91の研究機関と1,300社を超えるライフサイエンス企業が集まっています。バルセロナは、IDIBELLをはじめとする研究機関、PCBのようなインキュベーション基盤、そして患者団体が近接して機能する、欧州でも独特なエコシステムを形成しています。
出資の背景と狙い
NTAはこれまで、米国を中心とするライフサイエンス・スタートアップへの投資とハンズオン支援を行ってまいりました。今回の出資は、現地でのカンファレンス参加を通じてAptadel社を知ったことが端緒となっています。
対話を重ねるなかで、同社の技術がユーイング肉腫という一疾患にとどまらず、他の希少がんにも展開しうるモジュール型の基盤であること、そして研究機関・患者団体・企業が一体となって開発を推進する体制が整っていることを確認し、出資を決定いたしました。
本案件は、NTAの長南 具通氏が発掘から技術評価、経営陣との対話までを一貫して担当しました。NTAは今後、同社が進めるシリーズAラウンドおよび臨床試験入りに向けて継続的に支援するとともに、日本およびアジア地域における提携先の探索を通じて、同社の技術がより多くの患者に届く道筋づくりに貢献してまいります。

Newsight Tech Angels Invests in Aptadel Therapeutics, a Barcelona Aptamer Company Targeting Childhood Cancer
Entering Spain's biotech market at a record year for the sector, in support of a rare paediatric cancer programme
Newsight Tech Angels, Inc. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Toru Jay Seo; "NTA") today announced that it has invested in Aptadel Therapeutics, S.L. (headquarters: Barcelona, Spain; CEO: Gisela Lorente; "Aptadel"), a company developing aptamer-based therapies for childhood cancer. This is NTA's first investment in a Spanish company.
The unmet need in Ewing sarcoma
Ewing sarcoma is a rare cancer of the bone and soft tissue that occurs primarily in children and young adults. Standard care is limited to a combination of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy - all physically demanding, and frequently leaving long-term sequelae in patients who are still growing.
Because the patient population is small, large pharmaceutical companies have had little incentive to develop treatments independently, and the therapeutic options have gone essentially unchanged for decades.
About Aptadel Therapeutics
Aptadel was founded in Barcelona in 2020 as a spin-off from the sarcoma research group led by Professor Oscar Martinez-Tirado at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL). A foundation established by a patient's family (Fundacion Alba Perez) was involved in its creation, and the company operates from the Barcelona Science Park (PCB).
Its core technology is a proprietary aptamer-drug conjugate (ApDC) platform. RNA aptamers directed at EphA2, which is highly expressed on tumour cells, act as a delivery vehicle carrying therapeutic payloads such as siRNA and antisense oligonucleotides selectively into the tumour cell. The aptamer itself has anti-metastatic activity, the conjugates penetrate tumour tissue well, and the payload is modular and interchangeable.
The lead programme, ADEL-101, is an aptamer-siRNA conjugate targeting EWSR1::FLI1, the fusion oncogene that drives Ewing sarcoma and has long been considered undruggable. The company has generated promising results in cell and animal studies and is now working to complete regulatory studies and move toward first-in-human trials. Its wider pipeline includes ADEL-102 for rhabdomyosarcoma, along with radioconjugate and diagnostic programmes pursued with partners.
A record year for Spanish biotech
This investment coincides with a period of substantial growth in Spain's life science sector. According to the report published in June 2026 by AseBio, the Spanish Bioindustry Association, Spanish biotech companies raised ユーロ408 million in 2025 - a 125% increase over the ユーロ181 million raised in 2024, and a record for the sector. The number of transactions also rose, from 52 to 59.
Notably, ユーロ302 million of that total came from twelve transactions involving international investors, a sign that Spanish biotech is beginning to be recognised as an investment destination beyond its domestic capital base. The number of biotech companies in the country grew 10.4% to 1,119.
Catalonia is the largest cluster within Spain, home to roughly 23% of the country's biotech companies, 91 research centres and more than 1,300 life science firms. Barcelona in particular has developed an ecosystem unusual in Europe, in which research institutes such as IDIBELL, incubation infrastructure such as the PCB, and patient organisations all operate in close proximity.
Rationale for the investment
NTA has to date invested in and provided hands-on support to life science startups based primarily in the United States. NTA first came to know Aptadel through attending a conference in Spain.
Through subsequent discussions, NTA confirmed that the company's technology is a modular platform extensible beyond Ewing sarcoma to other rare cancers, and that research institutes, patient organisations and the company itself are aligned around advancing development. On that basis, NTA decided to invest.
The transaction was led at NTA by Dr. Tomomichi Chonan, who was responsible for sourcing, technical evaluation and the dialogue with management. NTA will continue to support the company through its Series A round and toward clinical trials, and will work to identify partners in Japan and the wider Asian region so that the technology reaches more patients.
