電力市場分析に特化したリサーチ・コンサルティング会社のAurora Energy Research株式会社（本社：東京都中央区、以下「オーロラ・エナジー・リサーチ」）は、住友商事株式会社（以下「住友商事」）がBSホールディングス株式会社（注1）を通じて福島県浪江町で開発する系統用蓄電所（出力62メガワット、蓄電容量291メガワット時、以下「本蓄電所」）について、プロジェクトファイナンスの組成に際し、電力市場に関するマーケットレポートを提供しました。
本蓄電所は、国内主要金融機関によるプロジェクトファイナンスの組成を経て建設工事を開始します。本事業は2024年に開始された長期脱炭素電源オークション（注2）の採択案件で、2029年の商業運転開始を予定しています。

Aurora Energy Research Supports Economic Analysis for Sumitomo Corporation's 62MW Grid-Scale Battery Storage Facility in Namie, Fukushima Prefecture
- Project selected in the Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction secures project financing and begins construction -
Aurora Energy Research K.K. ("Aurora Energy Research") is a research and consulting firm that specializes in power market analysis, headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. It has provided a market report on the power market for the project financing of a grid-scale battery storage facility. Sumitomo Corporation is developing the facility in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, through BS Holdings K.K. (Note 1). The facility has an output of 62MW and a storage capacity of 291MWh (the "Facility").
Construction of the Facility will begin now that major Japanese financial institutions have arranged project financing. The project was selected in the Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction (Note 2), which was launched in 2024. Commercial operation is scheduled to begin in 2029.
Output from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power fluctuates with the weather and other natural conditions. Renewable energy deployment continues to grow in the Tohoku region. However, output may be curtailed at times when electricity supply exceeds demand. To address these challenges, expectations are growing for battery storage to help balance supply and demand.
